Inshore seashore searches summer school
TLL have been involved in a summer school organised by Mosslands School, Wirral. We have had two groups of students over the week investigating the ecology of five different habitats: Mixed Woodland, Acidic Grassland, Pond, Flash and Heathland all at Royden Country Park and Thurstaston Common on Wirral. Students have been involved in using digital cameras, video cameras, Pasco dataloggers, GPS units and EDAs (educational digital assistants) with Wildkey software to help identify the species within each habitat. Students have also been using books and traditional field ecology techniques such as using quadrats, transects, transect profiles and clinometers to gather other physical data about each habitat. At TLL students created factfile webpages using Species software to draw kite diagrams, looked at samples under magnification and used Adobe PhotoShop and Premiere to edit images and video. Once complete the information will be uploaded to the seashore searches website:www.seashoresearches.co.uk
